Why thrifting?

Students are always chasing new fashion at affordable prices. Being current university students, we understand the tight budgets but the need to look good, and that’s what thrifting is for. We set out to look for the best clothing items with the best prices and stumbled on something good. With a variety of options to pick from we came up with the following day-to-day casual outfit, worn by model Gigi Hadid during NYFW in 2018.

Kamloops, BC, offers a variety of thrifting stores all over the city, with almost 6 or more stores available. We ploughed through several shops but found the perfect shop: Value Village. Just as the name says it, we surely got value for our money with a village of clothes and shoes to choose from. This particular store is located in the Upper Sahali location, just a 5 minute walk from TRU. The large selection of clothes we came across is ideal for students offering a wide range to cater multiple styles and sizes. This checks all the boxes of the students’ shopping list.

Our Take

The full outfit consists of a flannel shirt that ties in with the fall aesthetic, paired with a polo neck black top befitting the weather, allowing to layer for the cold season underneath. These two were complemented with a pair of washed-up blue jeans that are loose-fitting, and accessorized with black flat pumps with silver embellishment. This simple but modern outfit tied in perfectly with the goal of the challenge to create affordable but trendy fashion and is perfect for a long day full of classes on campus.

The photo with our own twist portrays a preppy school aesthetic that encourages students to dive into the world of thrifting, illustrated through our model (Meghan) holding onto the clothing rack symbolizing the new era of thrift fashion.

Thrifting is the new way to source something unique but affordable at the same time, as it involves single-piece items usually pre-owned at a lowered price. A lot of thrifting businesses have grown over the past few years, because people love the aspect of its unique fashion and creativity, and with this challenge, we were able to experience firsthand the benefits of thrifting and creating an stylish ensemble without spending a lot.
