Downtown Kamloops offers a diverse selection of stores, cafés, restaurants, and entertainment that could guarantee a day filled with fun. However, being a student is busy and expensive, so here’s how we would spend a free day in Kamloops, on a budget.

We started our day at Amplified Café, on Victoria Street in Downtown Kamloops. With a menu that has prices ranging from $3.00-$15.00, it surely has student-budget-friendly options. Amplified Café offers trendy and delicious breakfast and lunch options in a soothing and pleasant environment; perfect for a quick study session to start your day. We definitely recommend the lavender latté to accompany your coming adventures or to sit in their book corner and soak in the atmosphere before heading out to conquer the town.

Truly nothing says a student budget like some good old-fashioned thrift shopping. For the best high-end fashion options, we decided to take a look around The Ruby Room, just down Victoria St. from Amplified Café. The Ruby Room is a locally owned business that offers high-end designer brands with average prices ranging from $25.00-$150.00. The Ruby Room offers free delivery locally, which can guarantee some great designer clothing looks, on a budget, for your early morning classes when homework delays your laundry night. We found brands ranging from Michael Kors to Prada. Not to mention, the employees are always a great help when you’re not quite sure what you’re looking for.

After some energy-consuming thrifting, we stopped for a quick lunch at The Vic for some homemade soup and specialty drinks on their outdoor patio to enjoy the sun. With prices ranging from $3.00-$12.00, we were happy to enjoy a quality meal for less than what a meal at McDonald’s would cost.

Finally, to end our day, we took on some of the nightlife that Downtown Kamloops has to offer. You can never go wrong with Happy Hour at Carlos O’ Bryan’s, or Karaoke night at Central Station Pub, or some dancing at The Nightshift, or find a comedy night like Julie Kim at The Effie Arts Collective with tickets for $27.50.

At the end of the night, each of us had spent around $50.00 for a full day of fun and shopping. There sure are many ways to spend a meaningful and budget-friendly day in Downtown Kamloops!
