When should you Travel?

How should I plan my travel? Not everybody has the luxury of deciding when they want to travel. However, it can be helpful to be aware of your possible options. For this article, we decided to analyse the price difference for two different major destinations. One which is popular year-round and one which is popular during a specific season.

The infographics below show the different prices for the available airlines to two popular destinations, Lima and London. All flights are from Vancouver.

As you can see a popular destination like London has consistent prices throughout the year. In some cases, the Summer months are more expensive because the country has events like concerts and sports tournaments, and the weather tends to be better.

Lima has reversed seasons due to it being in the southern hemisphere. You can tell that during our summer months, airline prices drop substantially. Popular tourist destinations tend to be harder to visit because winter weather is more severe in the country.

Another thing to consider is your airline options. Regardless of your destination, seasons can affect the availability of airlines. It also means that you must factor in layovers, detours, comfort, and airline alliances. Furthermore, airlines can offer options to explore other countries while on vacation. Copa Airlines allows you to stop in Panama for a few days with no additional ticket fee.

On a final note, make sure to check the baggage options for these airlines. Some cheaper tickets may only allow for two personal items and no check-in luggage (a big suitcase). Adding a suitcase can vary from airline with some not accepting them while others charge between $50~$140 additionally to your ticket.
